Awanui Labs Taranaki is owned by Awanui Group (Previously known as Asia Pacific Healthcare Group), a healthcare company committed to providing facilities and services that deliver exceptional care to its clients.Our Taranaki laboratory provides community pathology services, serving a population of approximately 125,000.About the role | Mo te turanga:We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to take the lead in our Taranaki lab as the Head of Department - Specimen Services. This is a full-time permanent role, working 65-80 hours per fortnight.In this pivotal role, you will oversee the operation of our busy Specimen Services department and be responsible for driving process improvement initiatives to ensure efficient and accurate processing of specimens.Responsible for Specimen Reception, Data Entry, Call Centre, and testing referred out of region.Prepare rosters which include weekday, evening, and weekend staffing.Lead, motivate, and mentor a team of approximately 7 staff members.Foster a collaborative and positive work environment, promoting open communication, teamwork, and employee engagement.Evaluate existing specimen reception processes and identify opportunities for improvement.Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and laboratory policies within the Specimen Services department.Collaborate with other department heads, laboratory management, and external stakeholders to optimize processes and ensure smooth workflow coordination.Excellent leadership and team management skills, able to motivate and inspire staff members to achieve departmental goals.Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.Previous supervisory and/or staff management experience including roster planning/management.Demonstrated track record in process improvement, workflow optimization, and implementing quality management systems.Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle challenges in a proactive and effective manner.The ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.Ideally registered with the Medical Sciences Council of NZ and have a current APC.Be available to work flexible hours including days, evenings, and weekends if required.Proficiency in using laboratory information systems (LIS) and other relevant software applications.What's in it for you | He aha mou:Fully supportive operational team environment with supportive development programs for personal growth.Access to EAP and the company's Health & Well-being programs.If you are ready to make a significant impact in the healthcare sector, thrive in a dynamic environment, and lead a dedicated team in the pursuit of excellence, we encourage you to apply now with your updated CV and a cover letter.
