[Harvard University] Preceptor in KoreanThe Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations at Harvard University invites applications for a full-time Preceptor in Korean beginning August 1, 2025. The preceptor will be responsible for acting as instructor in charge of one of the levels of Korean taught at Harvard, between elementary and advanced (fifth year level), and for training and supervising instructors in the Korean program.
This is a term appointment of three years, renewable for a term of up to five years (eight years in total), contingent on performance, enrollments, curricular need, position availability, and divisional dean authorization.
The successful applicant should be well versed on the pedagogical issues of teaching Korean as a foreign language, have experience in teaching all levels of Korean, and must have exemplary ability in comprehension and active use of modern standard Korean, written and spoken, at native or near-native proficiency.
Several years of experience teaching modern Korean at the college level in the United States and specialization in Korean pedagogy and second language acquisition is highly desirable. A minimum of M.A. degree in Korean Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, Foreign Language Education, or a closely related field is required, with a preference for a Ph.D. degree (or ABD).
Application Materials Required: Statement of Teaching Philosophy and Research Interests, including a description of the candidate's teaching/advising philosophy, practices, and relevant research interests.Names and contact information of three to five referees, who will be asked by a system-generated email to upload a letter of recommendation once the candidate's application has been submitted. Three letters of recommendation are required, and the application is considered complete only when at least three letters have been received.A teaching demo (maximum of 30 minutes) by URL through the ARIeS portal, or a USB drive with a video file of the applicant teaching.All application materials, including letters of recommendation, must be submitted by November 15. Please note that references will only be invited to upload letters of recommendation after a complete application has been submitted online. Reference letters should be submitted by November 20.
