Are you passionate about wildlife conservation and enjoy sharing your enthusiasm with others? The Oamaru Blue Penguin Colony is looking for a Guide/Educator to join our team and help create unforgettable experiences for our visitors. The role offers the opportunity to lead our education programme, as well as working in our day-to-day operation.This role is a customer-focused position involving public speaking, customer service, and community engagement, so a confident, engaging personality and excellent communication skills are essential. The role supports the operational activities during the day and in the evenings, welcoming visitors and guiding them as they enjoy our conservation experience.Key Responsibilities:Guiding: Deliver engaging presentations to visitors, sharing insights about the penguins, their natural behaviours, and the Colony's conservation efforts.Customer Service: Provide exceptional service to visitors, answering questions, offering assistance, and ensuring a welcoming atmosphere.Team Collaboration: Work alongside a small, dedicated team to ensure smooth operational activities during day and evening viewings.Education: Lead our education programme in schools, delivering engaging and interactive talks that encourage participation from students.Community Engagement: Assist with community engagement programmes, representing the Colony at community events and keeping the local community up to date with the Colony activities.About You:You are passionate about wildlife and conservation, with a deep respect for nature and the environment.You possess well-developed interpersonal skills, a confident personality, and public speaking experience.You are mature, flexible, and organized, with the ability to work effectively as part of a small team.You have excellent communication skills and enjoy interacting with people of all ages and backgrounds.You are available during evenings and weekends.Education/science communication/teaching experience would be an advantage.Why Join Us?• Be part of a passionate, conservation-driven team working to protect and celebrate the penguins.• Gain valuable experience in public speaking, customer service, and wildlife conservation education.• Experience the unique opportunity to be a part of one of New Zealand's most loved wildlife attractions.Your application will include the following questions:Which of the following statements best describes your right to work in New Zealand?How many years' experience do you have as a Guide?Do you have customer service experience?
