Secondary (Years 7–15) / wharekura, Guidance Counsellor
Cambridge High School (CHS) is a co-educational school, established in 1883, with a roll of approximately 1,800 students. CHS serves the interests of the community incredibly well, meeting the varied academic, trades, cultural, and sporting needs of our students. Places at CHS are highly sought after, with families choosing to move into town to gain access to the school.
Guidance counsellors at Cambridge High School play a crucial role in supporting the academic, social, mental health, and emotional development of students. They provide guidance and counselling services to help students navigate personal and academic challenges, make informed decisions about their future, and build the skills needed for success both in school and beyond.
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled professional with a genuine passion for supporting young people. The ideal candidate will thrive in a busy school environment, managing their own caseload of clients with confidence and responding effectively to crises when required. They will have the ability to provide therapeutic support that aligns with the school's context and work collaboratively within the pastoral team.
A Bachelor's degree in Counselling or a Master of Counselling, along with membership in a professional body, is required. The role involves liaising with external agencies and supporting their involvement within the school. A commitment to promoting and advocating for student wellbeing is essential.
We're looking for someone who will be a great fit for our guidance team, contributing to a professional, supportive, and productive environment. Previous experience as a school counsellor or in a similar role is advantageous.
