About the role Loading the grit truck using the MerloSpreading grit on the access road before business hours of operation or when grit is necessary for increased traction on the access road. Safely negotiating 2 way traffic during grit spreadingAnticipating weather and the affect it will have on the road/ staffing and resource requirementsOperate MAN, Mercedes and Landcruiser Snow plowsAssist on site diesel mechanics when requiredDisplay safe driving practices and abide by specific grit truck and snow plow sign-off induction learnings at all timesAbide by specific merlo sign-off induction learnings at all timesUnderstand the hazards involved with operating heavy machinery and how to minimise riskEffective communication with Roads & Carparks TL & crews to establish where grit may be requiredRecover immobilised vehicles after loss of tractionDisplay safe driving practices and abide by specific vehicle recovery sign-off induction learnings at all timesDisplay safe driving practices and abide by specific light vehicle sign-off induction learnings at all timesEnsuring vehicle start-up checks are performedEnsuring vehicles are kept clean and tidyReports any vehicle faults or damage to supervisor for immediate attentionEnsures essential roads operational items are kept in good, working order and are there for the next day i.e. chains, signage and towing equipment.Using harrows to break up ice and bring grit up to the surface of the road to improve tractionUnderstanding which road conditions require the use of harrows and/ or brushesFastening harrows to the vehicle and removing them in the correct place upon finishOperating harrows/ brushes safely within sign off parametersTake rubbish truck to the transfer station in town when necessaryFollow steps to empty rubbish truck once at transfer stationFill spray tank trailer with CMA from Downer yardFollow steps for spray trailer operation. Spray access road with CMA. Ensure correct speed is maintained for even coverageUnderstanding which road conditions require the use of CMA/ when it should be appliedSpraying the access road at an appropriate time to minimise the disruption to guests during busy timesMaintain 2 way traffic at all times and pulling over where appropriate to let traffic pastAssist HOD with "handy man" jobs around the base buildingDirect contractors on site to Admin for H&S sign in and then to work site around building if instructed by HODAssisting with chain fitting, car parking, drop zone management or traffic managementRefer to general roads crew PD for complete description on core responsibilities in these areasSupport Roads and Carparks TL when required About you Minimum 1 year in a leadership position,Class two licence endorsement is required"W" endorsements is requiredExceptional driving skills is preferred.Basic computer skillsCapable of working outdoors in all weather conditionsPrevious experience in managing people in a Health & Safety focused Workplace, ability to work outdoors in all weather.Experience working in the ski industry would be ideal.A mechanical aptitude with basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance experience driving on snow and ice would be idealForks licence would be an assetSTMS Qualification would be an assetA proven commitment to the overall guest experience and the ability to work under pressure in a team environmentYou must be comfortable working in an alpine environment in a variety of weather conditionsYou need to be physically fit, have outgoing personalities and high levels of energyNot afraid of getting your hands dirtyYou must be health & safety conscious and a good record in this areaExcellent personal presentationPunctual, flexible and reliableMechanical experience not required, as full training will be givenAn understanding that employment is subject to the vagaries of the weather and the hours of work cannot be guaranteed Further Information NZSki will be closed for the holiday season, applications will be reviewed upon our return in the new year, no earlier than January 10th As Kaitiaki of the mountains we have an enduring commitment to our environment, people, and communities to ensure they benefit from our presence and as proud supporters of Winter Pride we've pledged to continue to provide a working environment that embraces and values diversity and inclusion.
