Vacancy No: ROT03106
Geriatrician Physician
Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora - Lakes
2 FTE - Full or Part Time
An exciting opportunity has become available to work as a Geriatrician and join our passionate and multi-disciplinary Older Persons and Rehabilitation Team in Rotorua Hospital.
The Lakes Older Persons and Rehabilitation Service
Our excellent team is based in a purpose-built 24-bedded ward that provides care for older patients and those requiring rehabilitation or who have suffered a stroke. Our team consists of one other specialist, a geriatric nurse specialist, a registrar, and a house officer, as well as an excellent interdisciplinary team of allied health professionals and nurses. We are committed to providing the best outcomes for our patients.
We also provide outpatient and community assessments in both Rotorua and Taupo. We work closely with our surgical and anaesthetic colleagues and provide a perioperative frailty service. We run a specialist Parkinson's disease interdisciplinary clinic and also a memory clinic. We have close links with our physician colleagues, older person mental health services, NASC, and our community-based colleagues.
In response to a local aging population, we anticipate the development of an acute inpatient geriatric service that would be well placed to provide advice to our orthopaedic and surgical teams. The development of this service will be a key part of this role.
Rotorua Hospital is responsible for the teaching and supervision of 4th and 6th year medical students and medical registrars in training; you will be expected to help support this learning.
Rotorua is in the centre of the North Island of New Zealand and surrounded by many lakes and an abundance of native forest: this provides for excellent water-based sports and fantastic hiking, walking, and mountain biking activities. Rotorua is located one hour from the east coast beaches and two hours from the ski fields of Mount Ruapehu. This position offers you the opportunity to balance a rewarding medical practice with an amazing lifestyle.
What are we looking for?

If you share our values of Manaakitanga – Respect and acknowledgement; Integrity and Accountability, and wish to join a great team of enthusiastic people who enjoy working with older people, we would love to meet you.
