Fixed term position until November 2025 The Genetic Health Service NZ Northern Hub is part of Te Puriri o Te Ora Regional Cancer and Blood Service, based at Auckland City Hospital, and is one of three Hubs of the national genetic service.
The Northern Hub provides genetic care for the region covering Tarawhiti to Northland. The service provides prenatal, general, and cancer genetic counselling care through education, information, and support to individuals, families/Whanau, and other agencies.
We are seeking a FHGSAGenetic Counsellor or Associate Genetic Counsellor to join our dedicated team. This role involves providing genetic counselling across prenatal, general, and cancer genetics, offering crucial support to families/Whanau.
As part of our multidisciplinary team, you'll manage a caseload of prenatal, general, and cancer cases. You will be responsible for providing coordinated, efficient, and quality genetic counselling service to patients and Whanau.
Key Accountabilities: Provide expert genetic counselling by assessing family and medical history and identifying genetic risks. Work closely with patients and families, addressing their unique needs and providing clear, empathetic communication. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive patient care. Participate in service development and assist in supervising Associate Genetic Counsellors and students. Actively contribute to quality improvement and professional development within the service. Important Skills: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information in a clear and compassionate manner. Master in Genetic Counselling. MHGSA or eligible to join Human Genetics Society of Australasia register. Committed to biculturalism and achieving equitable outcomes for Maori.
