General Surgeon - Upper GI at Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand Southern, Otago One year, fixed-term 0.8 FTE - Sabbatical Cover
We are currently seeking an Upper GI and General Surgeon with FRACS to join an established upper GI team providing a mix of surgery for benign, malignant and bariatric surgery from Feb 2025 – Feb 2026. We are looking for an enthusiastic doctor to join our department to support our general surgery team and deliver effective and comprehensive patient care. This role will see you take the lead in maintaining the existing services and may take the initiative in developing new services. Ideally, you will have general surgery and colorectal experience and demonstrate a good grounding in all aspects of surgery. Our teams consist of 2 Fellows, 22 Registrars including 6 Set trainees.
It would be advantageous for the ideal applicant to have experiences in endocrine surgery. For the right candidate, there may be an opportunity to supplement this with remuneration from Otago University with undergraduate teaching.

Utu whanui - Salary range
This role belongs to the 2024 ASMS Collective Agreement and falls between Step 1 ($185,380) and Step 15 ($267,980 p.a pro-rata).
