General Physician Timaru Hospital - South Island, New Zealand
Options for Permanent, Full and Part-Time in the General Medicine Department at Timaru Hospital.
Currently, we are a team of nine internal medicine specialists, with some of the team having an additional sub-specialty qualification or interest, including Neurology, Respiratory, Gastroenterology, Nephrology & Cardiology. This allows each member of the team to practice or upskill in an area of their interest, adding to job satisfaction and delivering valuable services to the community.
We also have a unique part-time model that enables part-timers to take their time off in blocks of weeks instead of days.
We are keen to expand the range and depth of these services and are looking for individuals who, in addition to their internal medicine and acute medicine skills, might like to practice or upskill in internal medicine subspecialties like gastroenterology, endocrinology (diabetes), rheumatology, cardiology, haematology, or similar. Equally, if you have an additional interest in Geriatric Medicine, we have opportunities that may suit.
Te Whatu Ora South Canterbury is responsible for the delivery of services throughout the South Canterbury region, and Timaru Hospital (131 beds) serves a district population of approximately 50,000. The hospital provides critical 24/7 services including A&E, ICU/CCU, General, Orthopaedic, & ENT Surgery, O&G, Psychiatry, Paediatrics, Geriatrics, Oncology & Palliative Care, plus of course Internal Medicine.
Integrity, collaboration, accountability, respect, and excellence are at the heart of everything we do. We are a proudly diverse team, as we know a diverse and inclusive workforce achieves the best outcomes for our patients and communities.
If you share in these core values and bring them into every aspect of your patient care, we encourage you to apply.
Living in South Canterbury offers a lifestyle opportunity second to none: this is an easy place to live, family-friendly, known to have one of the lowest crime rates in NZ, with instant access to an astounding array of outdoor activities - one of New Zealand's top ten rated beaches, a number of ski fields with both learner and advanced slopes, lakes, and mountains (the iconic McKenzie Country is on our doorstep).
Public amenities include multiple golf courses, modern aquatic/gym facilities, and an excellent array of sporting venues. The climate is great: hot summers, crisp winters, and no long commutes to work. Properties, including lifestyle blocks, are still relatively affordable by NZ standards, and primary and secondary educational facilities are superb, with two internationally renowned universities within a two-hour drive.
Medical Council Registration: Please be aware, if you are an overseas candidate, that the Medical Council of New Zealand requires primary source verification of your qualifications to be undertaken using the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates - Electronic Portfolio of International Credentials (ECFMG's EPIC) service. Being certified through EPIC is compulsory, and we recommend that applicants have registered their professional credentials with EPIC at the time of applying for this vacancy.
