About the role The General Manager, Workforce Development and Support is a newly created leadership role that sits on Audit New Zealand's executive leadership team and is based in Wellington. As outlined in the Auditor-General's strategic intentions to 2028, there is an ongoing global shortage of auditors, and fewer people studying accountancy-related subjects in New Zealand universities. In this highly collaborative role, you will work closely with the General Manager Audit Services and the Director, People and Capability to understand, plan for, and implement capacity and capability needs to ensure that Audit New Zealand can sustainably deliver quality audits. You will have a key role in leading organisation change and culture building through your leadership and implementation of workforce planning and workforce development initiatives. You will be across workforce demand and capacity forecasting, and spearhead strategies to ensure audit engagements are resourced and deployed appropriately. You will also lead recruitment and retention planning and develop programmes to enhance leadership and management capability including future leader pathways. About you We are seeking an experienced leader who brings a high level of professional credibility, an inclusive and approachable working style, and exceptional interpersonal skills. To be successful in this role, you will offer: Considerable experience in a senior leadership role within a professional services setting or similar corporate environment, leading both teams and functional areas. Extensive experience in developing and implementing successful resourcing, workforce management, and organisational development policies and practices (including culture, remuneration, recruitment, retention, and training and development strategies). Demonstrated experience in identifying and driving business change initiatives to positively influence individual and business-wide performance and culture. A good understanding (or ability to develop a good understanding) of the parliamentary and public sector environment, the political context of government, constitutional principles and practice including commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and the Public Audit Act 2001.
