General/Business Unit Manager (CEO & General Management) High-profile, Regional Council Lead core Council portfolios In partnership with its community, Environment Southland (Regional Council) is responsible for the sustainable management of Southland's natural resources - land, water, air and coast. Council operates in a large geographical region from Stewart Island to Fiordland. Due to a recent realignment, the CE is looking to appoint a General Manager Regulatory Services. The GM will be responsible for leading the Regulatory Services Group to ensure the effective delivery of Council's operational regulatory functions. The GM will oversee functions that include resource consenting, investigations, compliance and enforcement relating to legislation, regional rules and consent conditions, responses to environmental incidents, investigations, navigation and harbour safety, and administering certification and audit functions for farm plans. You will have experience operating at a senior leadership level, and be confident in providing strategic leadership to experienced managers. You will be an exceptional people leader and be strategic in your thinking. You will enjoy building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders and be politically savvy. You will have a demonstrated knowledge of the RMA, the Local Government Act and other legislation and have operated at a senior level in a regulatory environment. An understanding and appreciation of Te Ao Maori, Tikanga and the principles relating to Te Tiriti o Waitangi will be expected, and experience gained working in or with Local Government would be an advantage.
