Job Title: General Manager Location: Whitewater Ski Resort Department: Management Reports to: Knee Deep Development Corp Employment Status/Type: Year-Round Full Time Compensation: DOE JOB SYNOPSIS: The General Manager is responsible for the overall operations and leadership of Whitewater Ski Resort including strategic, capital, and financial planning, risk management, safety and security, environmental and sustainability leadership, technology management, sales and marketing, resort experience, and associated infrastructure.
The General Manager ensures the consistency of the Resort brand and that a culture of safety is paramount across our resort's operations for both staff and guests while ensuring compliance with industry best practices, guidelines and regulations.
A strong working and collaborative relationship with the VP of Development and Knee Deep Development ensures the successful development and implementation of the Master Plan resulting in Whitewater's future success.
This position ensures the vision of Whitewater Ski Resort's culture is integrated into all aspects of the Resort and gives insight into the success of the overall guest experience.
IMMEDIATE REPORTS: Outdoor Operations Manager Indoor Operations Manager Financial Controller Brand Director IT Director HR/OH&S Director SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintains confidentiality on all matters relating to the affairs of the Resort.
Implement Whitewater's strategic plan to meet long-term goals for the resort in terms of growth and expansion.
Champion a sustainable approach in daily operations, planning, and development.
Ensures commitment to industry sustainability best practices in the resort's environmental impact and long-term planning.
Monitor organizational effectiveness and implement change management where required.
Embrace and promote Whitewater's mission statement and values.
Partner with senior resort leaders to set yearly goals for departments that align with overall resort goals, and develop Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure success in achieving those goals.
Develop, direct, and oversee business plans and strategies to attain strategic business objectives and long-range operational goals.
Produce direct reports with budgetary responsibilities as necessary and assist with the development of budgets, goals and objectives to improve the performance of each operation.
Ensure the resort fosters a culture of safety by developing and implementing operating controls, standard operating policies, training manuals, and service standards.
Exemplifies the integrity, leadership, management, ability, work ethic and professionalism that are needed to maintain the service standards, employee standards and profitability of the Resort.
Leads, develops and monitors the performance of the management teams within the Resort; ensuring departments are performing and functioning as a team in the attainment of the Resort's plans, goals, objectives and standards.
Provides leadership to the key leaders in the company by coaching and establishing human resources practices that empower, retain, and engage employees to achieve the company's goals and objectives.
Participates in conjunction with Human Resources in maintaining an effective onboarding process, staff recruitment, training and development, and disciplinary procedures.
Understands the Government regulations affecting Resort operations ensuring the Resort is operated in compliance with all applicable laws, ordinances, regulations, standards and requirements of any federal and provincial authority.
Ensures the implementation of company policies and OH&S policies taking into consideration OHS legislation and leading safety practices.
Works in Collaboration with the Indoor and Outdoor Managers and HR/OHS Director to provide support to Senior Management in implementing the OHS safety program and policies, including management of operational risk control plans, to ensure continued alignment of the Safety Management System with best practices, legal, and insurance requirements to minimize or alleviate unsafe conditions and prevent accidents.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as necessary in the performance of the position, and as assigned by KneeDeep.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION: A Bachelor's degree in Business, Science, Environmental Studies or a related field required.
8 – 10 years of ski or resort industry experience.
5 – 10 years Management experience.
Clear working knowledge of budget planning and execution.
Proficient in MS Office including Word, Excel and Outlook.
SKILLS & ABILITIES: Hands-on management expertise in ski area operations management.
Experience managing large capital projects in a ski resort setting.
Exceptional communication both written and verbal, interpersonal and guest handling skills.
Self-confident, proactive, strong abilities to prioritize and make effective decisions.
Personable and professional with the ability to build strong relationships, interact and influence others at all levels of the organization.
Ability to lead by example and motivate all employees to ensure a well-balanced work environment.
Demonstrable aptitude in decision making and problem solving.
Effective conflict management skills.
Knowledge and understanding of emergency procedures including OH&S rights and responsibilities.
