We have an exciting opportunity for an entrepreneurial business leader to be part of a legacy building housing initiative in Te Taitokerau.Designed by Te Taitokerau Maori, for Te Taitokerau Maori, Te Pouahi supports whanau, hapu and iwi-Maori housing projects across the motu and enables whanau to build their own homes in a way that deepens relationships and connections, so that the health and wellbeing of whanau continues to strengthen now and into the future.The overarching intent is to connect kaupapa with the tools, resource, and networks to support a prosperous Te Taitokerau. The short-term focus will be to support the build of 80-100 new houses across Te Taitokerau, supporting more groups to overcome existing barriers and get ready to make the most of future funding opportunities.The nature of the position a new opportunity has been created for an experienced Kaihautu - General Manager to help lead, shape, and develop the Trust in these early, exciting stages of development and growth.You will bring to the organisation your proven experience leading start-up operational environments, as well as experience in overseeing business operations in a day-to-day setting. This pivotal appointment will call to those with extensive business acumen and ideally individuals with a mix of iwi and private sector experience.An exceptionally strong and collaborative leader with the ability to bring together a diverse group of stakeholders, you will have the commercial oversight and gravitas to navigate the complexities of building homes, not just houses. You will apply your operational excellence in planning and have the skill base to develop annual business plans and the operating budget and to achieve against plan.Your ability to critically review and improve organisation effectiveness by developing processes, overseeing employees, and establishing a highly motivational work environment is critical. An entrepreneurial mindset, and the skill to implement innovative change will also support you to thrive in this role.Naturally, utilising Te reo me ona tikanga and the ability to communicate with Maori audiences, it is envisaged you will already be well respected and networked within the local and regional community. It is then critical from the outset you will set about proactively leading and fostering trusted partnerships with external stakeholders, iwi, hapu, government agencies, non-government organisations, and community groups. This position is critically positioned to identify and maintain effective, strategic relationships with key stakeholder groups, through developing strong, long-lasting, high trust relationships.Providing leadership, coaching, guidance, and support, you ensure all staff understand the values, strategic plan and importantly, how they will support you to achieve the Trusts goals and outcomes. Building a high trust environment, you will be able to delegate responsibility and collaborate across a range of workstreams. With your direct reports, you will feel comfortable undertaking performance feedback and remain hands on by working collaboratively.Taking an all of business approach, you will ensure standards are monitored, achieved, maintained, and reviewed regularly to ensure operational and service excellence. Maintaining a watching brief to monitor programmes of work to ensure they are tracking to plan, part of your remit will be to ensure plans are current and fit for purpose, ratifying compliance with legal and statutory obligations, ensuring milestones are being reached and planned benefits are achieved.Consultative, and collaborative in your style of leadership, you will have the aptitude to relate to a broad demographic. Possessing an entrepreneurial flair and willingness to listen and learn, you will adopt a hands-on approach and disposition to work well alongside others. Politically savvy, but operating with political neutrality, your high level of commercial acumen will be valued when decisions will need to be made.Essential skills or experiences for the role whilst a Bachelor's degree in business management (or related field) is highly desirable, we acknowledge your success in a similar position. Extensive, comparable experience leading at a GM or at a senior leadership level of business. Expertise and understanding of implementing Te reo me ona tikanga into organisational practice.Previous exposure working within the development of housing is highly desirable. Exceptional commercial and financial acumen, with the ability to develop and achieve financial plans, budgets, and to analyse risk. The capability to take strategy and deliver it within operational practice to deliver on goals and priorities.Skilled in applying authentic and inspiring leadership and experience with people coaching and mentoring. The ability to operate effectively with a high level of diplomacy.
