High-profile, Regional Council Lead core Council portfolios In partnership with its community, Environment Southland (Regional Council) is responsible for the sustainable management of Southland's natural resources - land, water, air, and coast.
Council operates in a large geographical region from Stewart Island to Fiordland.
Due to a recent realignment, the CE is looking to appoint a General Manager Community and Engagement.
The GM will be responsible for leading the Community and Engagement Group to ensure the delivery of a cohesive approach to how Council engages, communicates, advises, educates, and consults with its communities, partners, and stakeholders.
The role will also incorporate leading functions such as strategic relationships and partnerships with neighbouring councils, central Government, commercial industry groups, and regional communities.
Other functions of the role will include advising on environmental issues, good regulatory practice management, external communications, public affairs events, and community connection and engagement management.
You will have experience operating at a senior leadership level and be confident in providing strategic leadership to experienced managers.
You will be an exceptional people leader and be strategic in your thinking.
You will enjoy building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders and be politically savvy.
You will be specifically experienced and qualified in strategic communications and engagement at a senior level.
An understanding and appreciation of Te Ao Maori, Tikanga, and the principles relating to Te Tiriti o Waitangi will be expected, and experience gained working in or with Local Government would be an advantage.
