About our role and service: Our Gastroenterology team at Te Pae Hauora o Ruahine o Tararua is looking to recruit a Gastroenterologist.
The Gastroenterology Department at Palmerston North Hospital, New Zealand, serves the university town of Palmerston North, and the Manawatu district. We provide quality outpatient gastroscopy and colonoscopy, ERCP, liver elastography, outpatient clinical care, inpatient gastroenterology care and bowel cancer screening services to the 180,000 people in our district. We are affiliated to the University of Otago, have a training gastroenterology registrar in our department, and have a research relationship with Massey University. This environment provides excellent opportunity for both teaching and research.
This position is based at Palmerston North Hospital, a 350-bed hospital in the city of Palmerston North, Manawatu, a city in the Lower North Island of New Zealand. Palmerston North Hospital is a secondary hospital and offers most medical and surgical specialties with the exception of Cardiothoracic, Plastic and Neurosurgery. The hospital serves a local population of 180,000 but is the base for a regional head and neck oncology service which has responsibility for a population of 550,000 and draws patients from Whanganui, Taranaki, and Hawke's Bay.
The collegial relationships between departments are strong and consultation with other consultants is easy, either formally with multidisciplinary meetings or informally as required. There is an active postgraduate medical society and there are excellent clinical library facilities.
