Sailing between Wellington and Picton, Bluebridge Cook Strait Ferries are part of one of New Zealand's largest transport companies, which also includes linehaul and freight forwarding.
We have permanent and fixed-term employment opportunities in order to fill existing vacancies and support our operations.
What is the role? Assisting with cooking breakfast, lunch and dinner menu items for crew and passengers under the direction of the Chief CookHeating and/or cooking of all foods for hot holdAssisting with daily food preparationUsing your knife skills to precisely cut as requiredKeeping your cool in high-pressure situationsManaging your time between multiple jobsUsing your people skills to build relationships with fellow staff quicklyCreating prep listsAssisting with set-up of the bain-marie area and assist with food servicePreparing short order mealsStocking fridges/freezers, dishes and cleaning within the galley as directed by the Chief CookMaintaining the safe and hygienic operation of the vessel's galley in conjunction with the NZFSA Food Control PlanThis is a seagoing position that offers variety, training and development opportunities, along with some pretty amazing 'office' views!

A positive, can-do attitude with a passion for people and foodTrue team players - you'll always be ready to roll up your sleeves and pitch inFood Safety Certificate and Food Control Plan knowledgeExcellent communication and time management skillsExperience in high volume food production or similar environmentThe ability to work in a fast-paced environmentYou will hold a recognised cooking qualification, be working towards obtaining one, or have relevant equivalent experienceValid STCW Certification would be highly advantageous, but is not essentialThe ability to communicate with passengers during an emergency, by use of the English language.Please note: *To work on our vessels you need to be at least 18 years old.*Applicants must have the legal right to work in New Zealand (open work visa, residency or citizenship) to be considered for this position.*Our recruitment process includes a pre-employment medical, drug test and a Ministry of Justice check.*To complete the STCW training required to work on board, you need to have the ability to swim and float unaided.If this role sounds perfect for you, apply online now!
