The Tairawhiti Community Law Centre is seeking a Full Time Permanent Lawyer to join our team to provide access to Justice for our community in a manner that is appropriate for that community.We are committed to providing access to justice,We are committed to providing legal service to those in the community in a manner which is reflective of their community,We are committed to delivering a service for whanau and Hapu that is in a manner that reflects the whanau and hapu we are working with,We are committed to providing training and support for our staff to deliver services to our community.We are looking for:A practicing lawyer who is passionate about ensuring whanau have access to justice and has experience working with Maori.You will have experience in one or more of the following areas: Maori Land Court Disputes Resolution, Employment, Tenancy and Housing, Consumer Affairs, Family, Enduring Powers of Attorney, Wills and Trusts, among other things.You are a team player who can work confidently on your own.You will have a working knowledge of Te Tiriti O Waitangi, Te Reo Maori, and Tikanga Maori or a willingness to learn.Have a current driver's license and be willing to travel to meet the commitment of services outside of the office location of Gisborne.Someone who would be willing to learn new areas of law and be engaged in our Kaupapa Maori Whole Centre approach to providing legal services.You will have experience in public speaking as we deliver Law-related education and are involved with Community at all levels.Work well under pressure.Comfortable working within a culturally diverse team and communityApproachable manner Good organisational and time management skillsKnowledge of Tairawhiti CommunityThe Position:A full-time permanent position based in Gisborne and Wairoa and at times in locations along the East Coast. Hours can be worked between 8 am and 5 pm and there will be requirements to work outside of these hours to provide legal services to our community.Generous CPD budget and support for trainingFlexible working arrangements and other staff benefits available.
