Forest Restorer

Details of the offer

The aim of this project is to restore Mangaonua to a native-dominated ecosystem and create an environment for the public to enjoy recreationally.
Our main task involves using secateurs to cut and remove vines such as honeysuckle and convolvulus, which are overwhelming the native plants. We also plant native shrubs and trees in the winter and learn some common exotic and native species.
Anyone is welcome to help us restore Mangaonua Gully.
Our ideal person is enthusiastic, enjoys nature, and likes working with others to learn new skills.
Requirements:
We advise volunteers to wear sunscreen, a hat, long sleeves, long trousers, and sturdy footwear. The main equipment we use are gloves and secateurs; if you do not have these, we can provide them.
Time commitment:
We have two volunteer groups.
The first group meets every Thursday morning from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The second group meets every second and fourth Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Both groups meet just before the junction between Silverdale and Morrinsville Rd.
People can come on a one-off or regular basis.
When registering your interest, please leave a note with which group you'd like to join, and we can add you to the appropriate mailing list.
