The Whakapapa whanau are a small but ambitious team, running year-round operations on the northern slopes of Mt Ruapehu. In winter, from June until October, this includes a world-class ski area. In summer, from December until April, this includes our summer sightseeing operation, heroing our iconic Sky Waka gondola. Each year we welcome hundreds of thousands of manuhiri (guests) to Whakapapa, many with life-long connections to the maunga (mountain) and surrounding region, some even third or fourth generation.

Our Food & Beverage Department is an important feature of our summer operations - let's face it, our manuhiri (guests) and staff can work up quite an appetite! Food & Beverage can be a really rewarding department to be a part of, and this position offers the chance to take on a leadership role in one of our cafés. The key aspect of this role is providing the best level of service possible to your guests and great leadership to your team.
The successful candidate will:
Assist in the training, development and performance management of staff.
Ensure an effective and efficient service is provided to guests.
Maintain quality standards with respect to food and beverage presentation and content.
Ensure kitchen areas, café seating areas, and counter spaces are prepared, cleared and maintained for food preparation and storage.
Prepare and place stock orders within set timeframes.
Maintain appropriate stock levels for expected sales and conduct stock takes.
Oversee daily processing of all monies.
Any other duties as requested by the Food and Beverage Head of Department.
Minimum qualifications include:
Bar manager's license is desirable.
Thorough knowledge of the New Zealand Sale of Liquor Act and other industry-related legislation.
Skilled in developing and maintaining relationships with both your team and guests.
Genuine interest and knowledge of 'café culture.'
Commitment to a strong guest service ethic.
High energy levels and a flexible approach.

Remuneration range - $25.32 to $29.14 depending on experience.
