Set in the heart of the Marlborough Sounds, The Bay of Many Coves is a boutique luxury lodge, set amid a rolling landscape of untouched native bush that reaches down to the shoreline of the Queen Charlotte Sound. Just 30 minutes by water taxi from Picton.
We are looking for someone to join our Food and Beverage Team as the Shift Leader or Department Supervisor. This is a full-time position, and given the responsibilities entailed within this role, we are looking for a minimum commitment to complete the upcoming summer season, ending May 2025, with longer employment preferred for the right candidate with working rights.
For this role, we are looking for someone who is confident to interact with our guests and manage the team to ensure guest satisfaction. This person needs to have an eye for detail to maintain our high standards and always strive to exceed guest expectations. You will be working in our Kumatage Lounge for breakfast and lunch services, and also in the Foredeck Fine Dining Restaurant for dinner. As such, it is likely your roster will include a variety of shift patterns to cover each of these areas.
Dinner service in the Foredeck Restaurant is more formal and can often be a multi-course degustation type menu that is served. Some culinary knowledge is always beneficial, along with some knowledge of wine, given that we are located in Marlborough, a world-famous wine region. We often serve a wine watch with the dinner, so candidates with wine experience and knowledge are favorable. A Duty Managers Certificate is essential for this role in order to serve alcohol, or a willingness to obtain this certificate, as well as relevant and recent prior experience.
You will thrive in this fast-paced and challenging environment and will not spend your day with one eye on the clock! You will already know what exceptional customer service is as you will be coming from a similar environment - where your 'customers are king' and your job is to exceed their every expectation.
Given the nature of our remote location, you will need to live on site, which is why we strongly prefer to accept applications from couples. Please note that we would align couples to work in separate departments to ensure we can offer you both the same days off. As such, we strongly encourage couples with complementary skills to apply. Other roles available include Housekeeping, Reception, Chefs, etc. Of course, applications from single applicants with the desired skills and previous experience will be considered.
Being a remote luxury lodge, your role will be primarily F&B based, but your knowledge will be a full immersion into the resort and the activities that we provide. The aim is that you will become a walking, talking ambassador for the Bay of Many Coves to assist guests with their requests. We are looking for couples who are willing to work through our busy summer season, which is commencing soon. As such, you will need New Zealand Working rights until at least May 2025 to be considered for this role.
As the lodge is open year-round, there is potential for longer-term employment, either on a longer-term or permanent basis for the right candidates. This position is available for an immediate start, but the start date can be flexible for the right candidate.
The key responsibilities within the role are:

Manage the F&B team and training of colleagues to deliver 5* service
Be the link to the kitchen to ensure efficiency of service and cohesion between departments
Stock control and ordering of beverages
Duty Manager's & current NZ first aid certificates (or willingness to obtain)

Staff Perks:
Given the nature of our remote location, you will be expected to live on site. Accommodation is provided as part of your package, as well as power, internet, and laundry facilities at no extra fee.

We are located in the Queen Charlotte Sounds and are a 30 minute direct boat ride from Picton, the nearest town. There is no road access to the lodge, so it suits someone who enjoys an outdoor lifestyle and living on the waters edge.
