James Cook Hotel Grand Chancellor is home to Whitby's Restaurant and Bar, which is well known for its superb a la carte and buffet menu. We also operate a smaller, more intimate restaurant, Sojourn Café and Bar, a 24-hour room service menu available for guests staying in one of our 269 guest rooms, and the Harbour Lounge on our 26th floor.
We are looking for experienced hospitality professionals to join our highly successful Food & Beverage team in Whitby's Restaurant, Sojourn Café & Bar, Room Service, and the Harbour Lounge. The successful candidate will have the ability to work in all of these Food & Beverage outlets.
The part-time position will provide approximately 20 – 25 hours per week, with starting times predominantly at 6.30am, 7.00am, 4.00pm, 5.00pm, and 6.00pm. Candidates must be available for a 7-day rotating roster, including weekends.
The ideal candidate for this role will:
Be passionate about Food & Beverage
Provide exceptional customer service and have a friendly & outgoing personality
Be self-motivated, a self-starter, and able to thrive in a busy environment
Be enthusiastic to learn barista, bartending, buffet, room service, and a la carte service
Have the ability to work independently and as part of a team
Be willing to learn, take initiative, and possess problem-solving techniques
Be good at upselling and have cash handling skills
Have the ability to multi-task and adapt to a busy environment
Have the desire to always put the customers' needs above all else
Have previous Food & Beverage experience (advantageous, but full training will be provided)
The position will include, but is not limited to:
Familiarity with food and beverage menus, products, and current and upcoming promotions and prices
Upselling by offering additional items such as bread, fries, salads, liqueurs, and wines when appropriate
Ensuring accurate and hotel cash handling procedures are followed
Ensuring tables are set correctly and buffet stations are adequately stocked
Anticipating guests' needs and acting accordingly
