We're looking for an enthusiastic and future-focused person to join our dedicated Flood Operations team.
This role is permanent, working across the region, and could be based in Lower Hutt, Otaki, or Masterton.
The Flood Operations team has been through a process to ensure it is set up for success and to accommodate planned growth over the coming years.
An entirely new level of leadership has been established, so it's an exciting time to join the team that has a critical role in protecting our communities from flooding, maintaining and providing oversight of our flood resilience work across the region.
About the role: The Flood Operations team takes primary responsibility for the implementation of the river management component of the floodplain management plans for the region.
The Flood Operations Technical Officer is a senior role with a focus on supporting the business, working internally across the council and externally with communities and agencies to ensure the successful operation and maintenance of the region's flood protection schemes.
You will provide technical advice and capacity for the planning, budgeting, and coordination of programmes.
You will develop and maintain systems and processes to enhance work for the team and support them to manage consenting and monitor compliance with relevant statutory requirements.
You will plan, coordinate, and deliver training needs and take a lead role in health, safety, and wellbeing.
Skills and experience required: A high level of project management experience, experience with developing budgets, operation plans, and technical advice, meeting project deadlines, and reporting on operations and trials.
Disciplined and organized, capable of running high-performing systems and services effectively and efficiently.
Continuous improvement mindset, able to follow things through logically.
Good problem solver who is flexible and adaptable.
Strong team focus with excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to use and train staff in new technology.
Enjoys building strong relationships across cross-functional teams and has the ability to relate to others with respect, sensitivity, and courtesy.

The salary range for this position, inclusive of all benefits, is $79,922 to $119,883, with a midpoint of $99,903.
Starting remuneration will depend on the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
