As a Regional Council, we're responsible for flood protection, public transport, civil defence, and more. This job offers you the opportunity to play a key part in the management of flood hazards in Canterbury, by ensuring we have the information required to respond effectively to future flood events. You will be responsible for carrying out 2D flood modelling to quantify the flood carrying capacity of river channels and the depth and extent of flooding that could result from a range of river breakout scenarios. This fixed term role will support our existing flood modellers to expedite planned flood modelling projects and help to ensure that our knowledge of flooding meets community expectations. To be successful in this role, you will need to have practical experience with flood modelling software and be a proficient GIS user. The position requires you to be an independent problem solver and practical thinker, to have a solid understanding of the principles and methods involved in managing natural hazards, and to have an eye for detail. You'll have a relevant degree, ideally combined with 1 – 2 years' experience. Recent graduates will also be considered.
