Our client is one of New Zealand's most experienced ship building, survey, refit and repair specialists. They service a large variety of vessels from Tugs, Barges, Ferries, Superyachts and other Commercial craft and also undertake heavy fabrication jobs for marine and other industries.
We are seeking qualified and experienced Turner & Fitter Engineer to join this well-established team, responsible for mechanical engineering repairs to vessels, machinery, and structures.
Main Responsibilities: General engineering/fitting maintenance of vessel components (shafts, rudders, seals, valves, pumps, pipework etc.) Repair work and machining of new replacement parts General maintenance of machinery, pump systems, slipway components and services Rigging & dogging crane lifts Work cohesively alongside a variation of departments and third parties Adhere to onsite health and safety requirements Skills, Experience, Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have the following experience and skills:
A relevant trade qualification General use of a lathe or mill General knowledge of running pipework Confident in the use of drilling machines Confident in the correct use of all power hand tools Ability to identify different types of bearing materials from plastics to bronze and competent in changing out bearings The ability to work independently without supervision, whilst mentoring younger staff Be experienced in working and behaving in an effective Health and Safety culture Marine experience desirable but not essential; the right person holding suitable skills can be integrated into the ship repair industry. Additional Preferred Certification: Confined spaces Working at heights Rigger / Dogman Forklift EWP (Elevated Work Platform) On offer is a full-time, permanent role (min 40 hours Monday to Friday), with overtime hours as required, including weekends.
