Barnardos is pleased to be working with the Ministry of Social Development to provide a Family Breakdown Assessment Service (FBA) for young people in order to obtain a young person's benefit. Assessors meet face to face with the client and in turn talk with family members and if required other key people in the young person's life. The contracted Assessors consider the circumstances and complete a written report with their professional recommendation on the evidence of a family breakdown.
About the role
This is a unique contracted specialised role with a flexible caseload and flexible working hours. The ideal applicant will be based in Palmerston North however will be able to travel to Fielding, Levin and Whanganui if required.
As a Social Worker/Whanau Worker you will work alongside the young person and their families to engage in an assessment and support in accessing financial assistance.
Key responsibilities
Proven experience working with young people and their families/whanau
The ability to work autonomously and have excellent time management skills
Excellent communication, organisation and facilitation skills
Flexibility and resilience to meet the needs of the role
Excellent professional report writing skills
A tertiary qualification in social work or other relevant qualification and a clean, unrestricted drivers licence
Excellent communication skills, time management and strong conflict resolution skills are key for this role. You'll need to be resilient, flexible and have the ability to build strong professional relationships with youth, their whanau/families and service providers. Previous experience working in a residential facility would be highly desirable.
To be successful in this role you will need to be:
A holder of a recognised social work qualification (Bachelor or Diploma in Social Work)
SWRB registered or currently applying for registration
Able to work positively, empowering our clients
Knowledgeable and understand relevant legislation and regulations
Knowledgeable of Tikanga Maori
Familiar with social work case management frameworks
A holder of a current clear NZ driver's licence.
