This is an inter-generational business with the Johnstone family having operated it for the last 45 years. The properties, Karamu (550ha) and Rangitautau (630ha) are 10km apart and are in the farming district of Kai Iwi, 20 minutes north of Whanganui. Both properties are a good mix of flat to steep hill country, with established native bush, and some forestry including Redwood and Pine. Due to the nature of the properties, they are intensively run, and the owners continue to look at all options to keep the business running as efficiently as possible.WHATThe owners seek an enthusiastic hands-on Farm Manager, with proven pasture management capabilities and a passion for producing excellent livestock. The owners live on farm and are happy to work alongside the successful Manager in a supportive role.As the Farm Manager you will be responsible for the day-to-day management and planning of Karamu and the oversight of Rangitautau, supporting the Block Manager who is responsible for the day-to-day running of that block. The appointee will have the experience to make informed decisions and understand the principles of good farm management.Excellent communication skills are important, both within the team and for liaising with contractors and suppliers. Key to your success in this role will be your ability to manage both the stock and pasture at crucial times of the year, both with the stud and commercial stock.WHOOur client is looking for a passionate Farm Manager who has a strong understanding of pasture and feed management. You will have a desire to be constantly learning and bring the below specialist skills:Be well planned and organised.Cropping experience would be advantageous.Excellent staff management and the ability to lead a team effectively.Strong communication skills both with the team and contractors.Have good attention to detail, with the ability to see the 'big picture'.High level of integrity and honesty.Tidy work habits.WHYSalary will reflect the level of experience brought by the new Farm Manager.Accommodation is a Healthy Homes certified 4-bedroom house with office, 2 bathrooms, 2 toilets and double garage. This house is very tidy, fully carpeted with a new stove and has had renovations done over the years.Kai Iwi is a rural community west of Whanganui.
