Farm Manager - Glencoe Livestock Company • Located in Patoka, 45 minutes from Hastings and Napier.
• Owners that foster an excellent work culture and value their people.
• Includes the use of modern technologies and farming operations.
WHERE
Glencoe Livestock Company is a business with a proud heritage located in the established farming district of Patoka, an area with a reputation for consistent seasons and excellent farming conditions. It is owned by Brent and Jackie Paterson who have recently moved off farm and now live in Havelock North. They are involved at a governance level in the business and provide support where required for the Farm Manager.
Glencoe is a 560ha sheep, beef and dairy grazing operation that has seen significant investment across fencing, water systems and pasture/forages to ensure it is purpose-built to suit the livestock systems in place; high value is placed on improvements and aesthetics.
This mixed-enterprise farming business is structured to capture the seasonal opportunities over and above the status quo policy of terminal stud ewes, terminal cows and dairy grazing and wagyu (backgrounder – growing from 100kg to 440kg). Dairy grazing Heifers arrive on-farm in December for 18 months, with two age groups on farm from December to May. The Wagyu program is with Firstlight.
The property is located in the Kaweka Community Catchment Collective (KCCC) which is a progressive group with extension programs to further develop the people and the environment.
WHAT
Brent and Jackie are seeking a Farm Manager who is motivated to develop a long-term relationship with them. In the near future, there is the possibility of exploring some form of equity partnership once initial targets are met such as superseding agreed growth rates for dairy grazers after the first 12 months.
This Farm Manager role involves many facets of modern farming including sheep and beef breeding and finishing, dairy heifer weight gain grazing and wagyu grazing to targeted weight gain profiles. The Manager is also responsible for training and supporting the keen Growing Future Farmers student currently on the property.
The majority of the system at Glencoe is based on a managed weight gain plan and monitored as such, the goal is to push weight gain and manage cost of supply and risk. They know and forward lock the numbers on a year-on-year basis so have an income mechanism they can work with confidence on.
The role will suit a Farm Manager with excellent communication skills who is results-focused and accustomed to documenting their planning and strategising in order to seek opportunities. Tools and support will be supplied with a particular focus on utilising technology to assist in growing farm productivity and the appointees' capability in this space. FarmIQ (operational), Farmax (strategic) and Figured (fiscal) are the operating tools currently supporting the business. MyEnviro will be deployed on the farm for all environmental monitoring and management.
The farm is still operating in 'post cyclone' mode and with much of the infrastructure back in place but general maintenance work is also a part of this role.
