Offender Employment (OE) is all about giving people in our care the opportunity to gain skills and work experience to increase their chances of obtaining employment after release. Now is an exciting time to join us as a Farm Instructor at Tongariro Prison. There are many facets to this role, from facilitating adult learning and on-job training to reintegration initiatives and forging relationships across the Department and within the wider community.
We are looking for someone who not only has experience in Farming but who wants to work with men who have had diverse life experiences but are motivated about making a positive change in their lives. We need you to teach, support, and use your life experiences to help others unleash their talents and be part of something that can be life-changing!
The training you provide will enable others to achieve NZQA qualifications linked to the Primary Industry Training Organisation. In providing a platform of good working habits to take forward to the future, you will further support rehabilitation and reintegration practices. The role also provides support to the wider Offender Employment operation on occasion as part of the wider Internal Services Team.
To be successful, it is highly desirable that you have: Management of livestock experienceProven experience & qualifications in the agricultural industryExperience with plant and equipment maintenance including preventative maintenanceOutstanding Health & Safety practiceExperience as an adult educator or hold an assessor qualification (4098) is an advantageExceptional people management & communication skillsThe ability to motivate and develop people within a team environmentWe can offer you a supportive work environment that will stretch your skills and offer you opportunities for development and growth while providing you with personal satisfaction at the same time.
Full pre-employment medical, physical, and drug tests will be completed on the successful candidate. A full NZ driver licence and First Aid Certificate (before job commencement) is required.

Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
