Today, we build on this legacy, sharing critical knowledge, innovative products, and essential services for a cleaner, safer, and more prosperous future.The roleAs a Facility Operations Manager, you'll bring your technical expertise in building infrastructure and asset management to ensure smooth operational planning and delivery. Based in Hutt Valley, this pivotal role leads service delivery across our sites, provides remote technical guidance to additional locations, and manages low-complexity projects focused on asset renewal and infrastructure enhancements. You will also take on people leadership responsibilities, ensuring a positive, high-performing team environment, and participate in a paid 24/7 on-call roster to support business continuity, site security, and emergency response.ResponsibilitiesYou will be responsible for:Leading facility management operations that support our Avalon, Gracefield, Featherston and Wairakei sites, including delivering efficient management of infrastructure and facilities.Applying deep technical knowledge to asset planning, maintenance, and management, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and optimal asset condition.Overseeing small to medium projects related to asset renewal and infrastructure, from defining scope and coordinating stakeholders to delivering within budget and timeframe constraints.Managing and mentoring the Facilities Maintenance and Core Store teams, fostering a collaborative culture and maintaining high performance.Addressing staffing needs and development while ensuring business continuity and proactive improvement initiatives.About youSuccess calls for someone with:Tertiary qualification in Facilities Management, Engineering, or an appropriate related trade.5-7 years in facilities or property management, with strong team leadership and contract management expertise.Excellent project management skills, including stakeholder coordination and adherence to project timelines and budgets.Strong analytical, problem-solving, and customer service skills, with a focus on business continuity and emergency preparedness.Proven experience with Health and Safety legislation and contract management within complex facilities environments.Proficient in the common Microsoft Office suite of products, and familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS) and security management software.Clean full driver's license is essential; a forklift license or first aid certification a plus.If you're ready to lead a skilled team, optimise our facilities, and drive impactful operational improvements, we'd love to hear from you.Why work for GNS Science?Our work helps New Zealanders understand and address climate change, find and use greener energy and better manage the impacts of natural disasters on their homes and communities.People come from all over the world to work for GNS Science.
