The Opportunity We are inviting applications for a senior fellowship position in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) at Auckland City Hospital CVICU.
Positioned in the centre of one of the world's most desirable cities in New Zealand, the Cardiothoracic and Vascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) at Auckland City Hospital is a stand-alone Intensive Care facility with staffing for 18 ICU and 8 HDU beds.
We provide intensive care to patients following all cardiothoracic and vascular surgery including heart and lung transplantation.
Complex valvular surgery is common given the region's high incidence of rheumatic heart disease. We also manage patients with cardiogenic shock and pulmonary embolism.
Additionally, we provide a national ECMO service to adults, including provision of an ECMO retrieval team. There are around 2200 ICU admissions and 800 HDU admissions per year.
The unit has accreditation for training from the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM). An active program in transoesophageal and transthoracic echocardiography exists on the CVICU.
Important Skills Ideally, the successful applicant will have completed a postgraduate examination in intensive care medicine and possibly completed (or have six months remaining) all of their postgraduate training time in intensive care medicine. You must either have or be eligible for general or postgraduate trainee registration with the New Zealand Medical Council (www.mcnz.org.nz). During the second six months of this position, you will take part in the consultant on-call roster (with appropriate supervision). This position will fulfil the CICM's requirement for a senior registrar position.
