About the RoleSouthern Institute of Technology, a business division of Te Pukenga, is looking to appoint a suitably qualified person to the above fixed-term position at our Telford Campus near Balclutha.The tutor would be responsible for teaching equine skills, particularly in the area of Sporthorse, to a range of students, teaching general skills as directed by the programme manager, managing the equine facility at the Telford Campus, and organising equine events. Additionally, the equine tutor will assist in promoting equine qualifications.About YouYou will have experience and knowledge of a range of industry-relevant practices, especially related to Sporthorse and equine skills, and the ability to support others in learning these skills.The successful applicant will possess the following attributes:Tertiary QualificationA range of experience in the equine industry, especially in Sporthorse disciplinesA teaching qualification and/or willingness to complete the New Zealand Certificate in Adult Tertiary Teaching (Level 5), offered through SIT, and a commitment to continual learningCurrent knowledge of workplace Health and Safety legislation, with the ability to role model correct behaviours and teach others to integrate health and safety into everyday practiceCurrent knowledge of Animal Welfare regulations, with the ability to role model correct behaviours and teach others to integrate animal welfare practices into everyday practiceExperience in competition, Sporthorse training, and competent riding skillsAvailability for some weekend work (evening) as negotiated with the programme managerCurrent knowledge of the rules relating to Sporthorse competitionFull driver's licenseAdaptability and organisation, with competence in Microsoft suite of programmes, particularly Word and ExcelYour key attributes:Inspirational educator, passionate about education, skilled at engaging and motivating diverse learnersCollaborative communicator, able to connect effectively with students and colleaguesHealth & Safety is a priority of this role, and the successful candidate will be expected to have a good understanding of the H&S requirements and behaviours in the farming environment, with strong adherence to the health and safety of yourself and others.A full job description for this role is available for download below under Documents to Download.To apply for this opportunity, click the SEEK button.
