The Open Polytechnic of New Zealand (OPNZ), New Zealand's largest dedicated provider of online and distance education, is redeveloping 14 business degree courses and we are looking for business experts to assist the project development team in redeveloping these courses.
A redevelopment to update content and include the latest technical and sociological developments in their respective fields is needed.
The Open Polytechnic is seeking expressions of interest from skilled and experienced people with academic and education experience in business for the following two roles:
Subject Matter Expert(s)
Content Reviewer
The 14 courses range from level five through to seven and include the following subject areas:
Human resource management
Marketing
Leadership and management
Operations and quality management
Project management
Economics
Commercial law

Experienced at teaching business courses to akonga at diploma and degree level.
Practical and up-to-date experience of the business subjects listed above in the workforce.
Already possess or are looking to extend your academic expertise into the online and distance delivery arena to make an impact across all Aotearoa New Zealand.
A team player who is well versed in working with relevant stakeholders and education professionals.

Post-graduate qualification or equivalent in a relevant area.
Strong writing and analysis skills, and a strategic approach to planning and development.

Content Creator-Subject Matter Expert(s) / Content Reviewers
We need skilled and experienced people who have employment, training, or education experience in the business fields listed above.
Content Creator-Subject Matter Expert(s)
The Content Creator - Subject Matter Expert (CC-SME) will provide focused specialist information and advice on their assigned course and within their key area of expertise. Collaborating closely with the Learning Designer throughout the design and development of the course. Specifically, the CC-SME will:
Work collaboratively with the development team to produce high quality courseware for online, distance, flexible learning.
Conduct research into the specific course subject assigned, recommend and provide content, online resources and information in line with the design approach, course descriptor requirements (learning outcomes) and as specifically requested by Learning Designers.
Write initial drafts and conduct a final peer review of courseware prepared by Learning Designers.
Ensure cohesion of content provided across topics and courses. Create or highlight linkages between content/resources provided.
The time commitment for this role is expected to be on average 10 to 20 hours per week; however, hours will vary, depending on the project deliverables during any given stage for a period of around 3-4 months, with the hours sometimes being 'more or less' depending on the stage of development.
Content Reviewers
Content Reviewers act as a peer reviewer of the content provided by the CC-SME and will provide input in and feedback to specific parts of the development, as needed. Specifically, they will:
Consult with the development team to contribute to courseware development with a focus on their key business areas of expertise. This may involve some research and writing.
Answer specific questions from the development team with a focus on their key business area of expertise.
Conduct peer reviews of course materials such as the Course Map, Assessments, Module and Assessment Plan and course content.
Development Work Timings
The project is wanting to start development in early 2025 with the first increment of courses estimated to be published in July/September 2025, with subsequent courses published in February/April 2026.
