To be eligible, you need:
The right to work in New Zealand or a Work Visa with at least 12 months remaining.
A full New Zealand Driver Licence (or eligible on a Restricted with 3 or fewer months left to obtain Full).
To declare any conflicts of interest and previous convictions. Exempt from Clean Slate and all conviction history is released.
The ability to pass a drug test.
Be medically fit for employment and complete a Medical Assessment and Physical Readiness Assessment.
Our prisons operate 24/7; applicants must be able to work shifts on a rotating roster.

We offer fully paid training, starting with a one-week induction at Manawatu Prison, followed by 5 weeks of training at our National Training Centre in Trentham, Wellington, and then 5 weeks back at Manawatu Prison before graduating. Your learning journey will continue with professional practice and development support, along with a clear pathway to career progression.
In return, you'll get opportunities for professional development, promotion, and the ability to gain a recognised qualification in Offender Management.
This role is based at Whanganui Prison.
Utu a-tau | Salary
Starting salary of $67,519. Once in the role, you have the opportunity to achieve national qualifications of varying levels which increase your salary. Level 3 ($72,197) and Level 4 ($77,713).
You also receive a Variable Shift Allowance in addition to your salary.
