EOI - Corrections Officer - Tongariro Prison at Ara Poutama Aotearoa (Department of Corrections), WaikatoExpressions of Interest are open for Corrections Officers at Tongariro Prison. Nga kawenga | About the role As a Corrections Officer, you will be working in a challenging environment supported by a team of experienced professional colleagues. You will engage with people positively and have the opportunity to change the lives of the people in Prison and their whanau by influencing change through your interactions. You will spend much of your time working within the unit(s), supervising the people in Prison with their daily routines, escorting them around the site to education programmes or other appointments. You will monitor, assess, and manage behaviour and safety, helping control and lessen any conflict within the unit(s).

A positive mindsetAbility to engage with whanau, iwi, and hapuMotivated to make a positive impact in your communityInspired by having the opportunity to change someone's lifeBe able to work rostered shifts across a 24/7 pattern including weekends and public holidaysExperience within a Kaupapa Maori or Pasifika environment, while not essential, is desirableRelevant experience within a people-focused role (e.g., Security, Police, Military, Healthcare) where you have built an understanding of how to facilitate positive outcomes for others. Along with your unique skills and perspective, we also need you to have the following:
Current and full New Zealand driver licence or Restricted Licence with the ability to sit your full licence within the next 3 months.Legally able to work full-time in New Zealand or the ability to meet and obtain visitor visa requirements to attend the assessment centre if shortlisted.Pre-employment checks are also required and include: Drug test, full disclosure criminal conviction check (Clean Slate Act does not apply), medical assessment, a physical fitness assessment, and reference checks.
We provide fully paid training. You will commence training on our CODP (Corrections Officer Development Pathway), which involves an initial week's induction onsite, five weeks at our National Learning Centre in Wellington, then six weeks back at your site before graduating. From there, the learning journey will be ongoing.
Starting salary: $67,519, increasing as you achieve National Qualifications Level 3 ($72,197) and Level 4 ($77,713)Night Rate (Time and a Quarter)We offer a professional and progressive environment, continuous learning and development opportunities, access to Regional Staff Welfare Coordinators, Maori & Pasifika support Networks, plus much more.
