EOI Corrections Officer - Mount Eden Corrections Facility at Ara Poutama Aotearoa (Department of Corrections), Auckland (Tamaki Makaurau)With ongoing successful recruitment rounds, we are at full capacity at Mt Eden Corrections Facility for many of our Correction Officer roles. As a result, we are accepting Expressions of Interest should you wish to be considered for Corrections Officer roles in the Auckland Region in the later months of 2025. Ko wai matou | Who we are Mt Eden Corrections Facility (MECF) is based in the heart of the Auckland CBD and is the biggest male remand facility in housing over 1,100 of the national prison population. Not only is MECF the largest remand facility in Aotearoa, but it is also the busiest for prisoner movements. Ara Poutama Aotearoa is a name that has been gifted to us and conveys the responsibility for those in our care to reach their potential and our commitment to improving the oranga and safety of the people, whanau, and that of the communities we serve.
Mo te tunga | About the role As a Corrections Officer, you will be working in a challenging environment supported by a team of experienced professional colleagues. You will engage with people in a positive way and will have the opportunity to not only change the lives of the people in Prison but also whanau by influencing change through your interactions. You will spend much of your time working within the unit(s) supervising the people in Prison with their daily routines, escorting them around the site to education programmes or other appointments. You will monitor, assess and manage behaviour and safety, help control, and lessen any conflict within the unit(s).

A positive mindsetAbility to engage with whanau, iwi and hapuMotivated to make a positive impact in your communityInspired by having the opportunity to change someone's lifeBe able to work rostered shifts across 24/7 pattern including weekends and public holidaysExperience within a Kaupapa Maori or Pasifika environment, while not essential, is desirableRelevant experience within a people-focused role such as Security, Police, Military, Healthcare or similar where you have built an understanding of how to facilitate positive outcomes for others is required. Along with your unique skills and perspective, we also need you to have the following:
You are required to have a full New Zealand driver licenceLegally able to work full-time in New Zealand or the ability to meet and obtain visitor visa requirements to attend the assessment centre, if shortlisted.Pre-employment checks are also required and include: Drug test, full disclosure criminal conviction check (Clean Slate Act does not apply), medical assessment, a physical fitness assessment and reference checks.
We provide fully paid training; you will commence training on our CODP (Corrections Officer Development Pathway) which involves an initial week's induction onsite, five weeks at our National Learning Centre in Wellington then six weeks back at your site, before graduating, and from there, the learning journey will be ongoing.
