Watercare has an exciting opportunity for a motivated and dynamic Environmental Scientist to join our team.
In this role you will:
Manage the resource compliance needs of our Network Discharge Consent
Contribute towards an integrated and cross organisation wastewater network strategy
Assist with the implementation of an environmental monitoring programme associated with the Network Discharge Consent
Investigate and develop solutions for non-compliances, especially where there are adverse environmental effects
Respond to environmental incidents and undertake environmental investigations
Contribute to developing Watercare's scientific capabilities and our understanding of environmental impacts
Contribute to the Safeswim programme in collaboration with Healthy waters
Work with other team members and business groups on environmental enhancement and improvement projects
Contribute to community engagement in relation to operational performance of the wastewater network
In this role you will bring:
An honours degree (or equivalent) in environmental science or management, environmental engineering or another related field
Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
Proven ability to manage and audit data and data collection systems, with proficiency in Excel, familiarity with GIS, and some experience with R or similar statistical tools
Proven ability to operate in a collaborative environment
A working understanding of the Resource Management Act, regional plans and resource consents is desirable
Experience in the water and wastewater industry is preferable, but not essential.
