Environmental Scientist – Christchurch

The type of work is varied ranging from residential and commercial development to large scale roading and infrastructure projects.
As part of our environmental team, you will work on land contamination assessments including the collection of soil, water, gas, air, and hazardous material samples (asbestos/lead paint).
The field work will be as varied and diverse as the South Island landscape, and your work will help inform health risk assessments, regulatory compliance reports, and pre-purchase risk assessments.
An ability to capture details and work independently and as part of a team is important.
The ideal applicant would possess the following skills and experience: a tertiary qualification in environmental science, geology, chemistry or similar 1 - 5 years of relevant New Zealand experience is preferred, but we will consider recent graduates with limited work experience an Asbestos Surveying Qualification or Assessors Licence would be beneficial a sound understanding of the National Environmental Standards for Assessing and Managing Contaminants in Soil to Protect Human Health a sound understanding of the Ministry for the Environment Contaminated Land Management Guidelines and other industry-specific guidelines experience with the collection of soil, sediment, water, and air samples, and the assessment of environmental data and preparation of technical reports experience in data analysis, statistical interpretation in Excel, R, or Python would be advantageous experience with CAD or GIS packages would be advantageous experience logging test pits, soil bores, and installing groundwater monitoring wells via a variety of drilling methods would be advantageous willingness to undertake fieldwork across the South Island of New Zealand valid full New Zealand drivers' licence and experience driving manual vehicles would be preferable.
