Environmental Protection Officer

Details of the offer

Marlborough District Council – Blenheim, South Island
Join our team as an Environmental Protection Officer, where your role will see you primarily monitoring resource consents and permitted activities. This could include anything from environmental compliance issues regarding forestry, winery waste, stock farming, through to marine farms, air pollution or water quality.
If you're naturally inquisitive and enjoy investigating, you're a great fit for this job. We need someone who can inform and educate landowners and businesses on the benefits and requirements of compliance. Good communication skills are a must, as you'll be working closely with public stakeholders, and the ability to foster working relationships is essential. Paying close attention to details and following procedures accurately are crucial skills we're looking for.
In this role, you'll also be skilled at formulating strategies for enforcement, including understanding and investigating complaints objectively and impartially, along with preparing and presenting evidence to support Council functions or Court proceedings. Join us in protecting our environment and make a positive impact on your community!
This is a full-time position based in Blenheim.
A great benefits package (including life, income protection and health insurance, enhanced leave and superannuation, and relocation support where applicable).
A salary range of $92,000 to $102,000 (this will depend on the knowledge, skills and experience you have to offer).
A workplace that supports flexibility, health and wellbeing.
An environment where input, initiative and innovation are encouraged.
A fantastic learning environment and support for professional development.
Ideally, you will hold previous experience in forestry, environmental protection, enforcement, or a similar role with the proven ability to interpret key policies, legislation, and procedures.
Tertiary qualifications in forestry, resource management, environmental science, compliance or similar will be highly regarded but are not essential, providing you can demonstrate sound judgment and decision-making skills, with an investigative mind and an aptitude for dealing with compliance issues that can at times be complex and contentious.
As this is a customer-facing role, the ability to provide high-level customer service and engage with internal and external stakeholders from all walks of life will be key to your success. You will have exceptional communication skills, be comfortable working collaboratively, and have the conflict resolution skills to navigate occasional difficult situations.
The role offers a good mixture of indoor and outdoor work, as well as a competitive salary depending on the knowledge, skill, and experience you bring to the organisation.
If you're unsure you fit all of the above but think you could be a great fit for the position, please apply as we would love to hear from you!
