We are looking for a leader in designing, planning and managing environmental monitoring programmes and the associated technologies and data management systems. Gisborne District Council monitors a range of natural environments from rivers and streams, groundwater, coastal-marine area, air and climate. This involves collection of water samples, river gaugings, water level recordings, biomonitoring, installation and maintenance of equipment, weather stations and telemetry systems, and quality control and assurance of all data collected.
Our environmental monitoring gathers mountains of data to assess the health of natural environments, to track changes over time, and to inform Council decisions on priority investments and solutions. Environmental data management is therefore a key pillar of this role and ensures we can generate quality reporting and new knowledge.
This role oversees and supports a team of specialists including technicians, data officers, water quality & science officers, and hydrologists. Our team leader manages all aspects of this team including work programmes, budgets, business reporting, recruitment, and performance while working collaboratively with our environmental science team and other units of Council.
We are interested in hearing from you if you have considerable experience in at least one of these areas: designing, planning and managing environmental monitoring programmes, environmental data management systems, expertise in hydrology or another environmental science field, and/or people management.
You'll recognise the importance of the role as a Treaty partner and understand how that underpins Gisborne District Council's work.
