Environmental Information Technician - Niwa

Details of the offer

Are you looking to build your electronics career?
We have a 12-month fixed-term vacancy in our Environmental Information Group based in Christchurch where you will be focusing on the delivery and support of electronic equipment, and software systems, used by climate, hydrometric and other environmental data monitoring systems.
What you will be doing:
You will work closely with other Instrument technicians and be involved in all aspects of environmental monitoring system design and construction, as well as, in some cases, installation (potentially overseas) and customer training.
As well as design and rolling out new monitoring systems, you will also provide support for the ongoing environmental data operations. This involves providing office-based support to field-based technicians who may be experiencing issues with monitoring equipment. It also includes managing change and diagnosing operational issues, to keep NIWA's enterprise telemetry, data management and data transfer systems operating robustly and reliably.
We realise these two responsibilities are broad so, do not be put off applying if your work experience doesn't cover all the above scope.
What you will bring:

A relevant tertiary qualification in electronics, science or physics is preferred but not essential. Experience with industrial/environmental instrumentation and processes would also be beneficial.
An interest in meteorology and/or hydrology.
Experience and an understanding of electronics assembly and principles.
An understanding of data with an ability to identify cause and effect and trends over time.
Experience using data telemetry, management and transfer software systems.
A strong client-driven work ethic and enjoy working in a busy, varied environment.
A current NZ driver's license, and
Excellent communication skills.

What you will get:

Competitive remuneration and inclusive benefits.
Office first culture with flexible working options (e.g., part-time, flexible start and finish times).
Opportunity to work at a world leading organisation committed to helping the environment!
