Established in 1902, our Waitoa site is the only one in New Zealand that can produce the full range of nutritional powders, including organic and stolle milk powders. These products are exported to 35 markets around the world. This site employs more than 400 staff.
About the opportunity | Te whai waahi
Due to internal movements, we are on the hunt for our next Environmental Advisor wanting to grow their career. As an integral member of our Environmental Team, you will support our Waitoa site to achieve Fonterra's sustainability goals and maintain compliance of resource consents and ISO14001 Environmental management system requirements.
You will support the development and improvement of environmental best practices, lead key aspects of the site Environmental Management System (ISO14001), undertake compliance monitoring and reporting activities, corrective and preventative action management, non-compliance management and the implementation of business plan objectives.
Reporting to the Environmental Manager, your key responsibilities include:
Lead key aspects of the site Environmental Management System ISO14001 standard, such as internal and external audits, aspects review, closeout of audit actions and non-compliances.
Provide support for the Environmental Team including operation of the wastewater treatment plant, irrigation and other environmental aspects on site.
Support the Environmental Team and Site with continual improvement initiatives focusing on environmental compliance and sustainability.
Identify environmental hazards, and carry out investigations in response to incidents and implement controls to prevent reoccurrences.
Review compliance monitoring data and assist with preparation of daily, monthly and annual reports.
Liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders (e.g. Council, Iwi, local Community) in relation to sustainability and environmental matters.
Prepare and present sustainability/environmental educational material and provide environmental advice to staff for effective engagement.
Providing cover and DA for the Environmental Manager from time to time.
Please note this is a 12 month fixed-term contract.
About you | Moe koe
We are looking for a passionate environmental specialist. A tertiary qualification in Science, Environmental Management or Sustainability is preferable however not essential.
Your strong technical skills, coupled with the ability to analyse data and practice conceptual thinking, will help you succeed and gain credibility when dealing with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
We want to hear from you if you have:
Environmental technical knowledge, via education and/or work experience.
An authentic commitment to environmental sustainability.
Excellent influencing, stakeholder management and communication skills- both written and verbal.
Strong problem solving, planning and organisational skills with a high level of attention to detail.
Exposure to environmental compliance and management systems (ISO14001) would be highly beneficial.
Familiarity with Business Management systems.
Whilst technically savvy, you must also be a "people person" passionate about engaging with others and willing to get out and about across the site educating and coaching others on all things environmental; our responsibilities, our ambitions and the impacts of our everyday decisions on the environment.
