The role
The Engineering Services Manager plays a key role in ensuring that Council's strategic direction is supported through efficient, effective, and sustainable management of engineering services functions, including roading, solid waste, and development engineering.
Key responsibilities include:
Provide high quality leadership for the engineering services team
Establish and maintain a high-level collaborative approach with key stakeholders including internal, regional, and national agencies e.g. NZTA, Waikato Regional Council, Ministry for Environment etc.
Pursue and secure internal and external funding for activities within the portfolio
Provide technical and strategic advice for Council's engineering services and associated assets
Engineer to Contract on operational and capital contracts
What are we looking for?
You will be an experienced people leader with an innovative mindset, strong strategic capability, and the ability to drive and influence decisions. You will also need:
A tertiary qualification, BE/BSc in Civil Engineering, chartered and hold full membership of a recognised professional engineering body
Minimum of 5 years leadership experience in a relevant field involving the provision of engineering services
Demonstrated understanding and application of key local government legislation and statutory requirements
Understanding of Treaty of Waitangi and Tikanga Maori
Experience working and collaborating for or with external agencies e.g. NZTA/MfE/MBIE
Proven experience in the development, procurement, and management of contracts for the delivery of service through external service providers
Well-developed political, financial, and business acumen
