Job Description What you'd be doing in this role
As Canva scales, change continues to be part of our DNA. This role will involve:
Coaching, mentoring, and growing a team of frontend and backend engineers while developing your coaching capability.
Working alongside the technical lead to solve ambitious technical problems and guiding the team to deliver results.
Collaborating closely with the Product Manager to understand and contribute to the product roadmap.
Driving the planning and refinement of seasonal goals, ensuring alignment between the company, group, and teams.
Fostering a culture of collaboration and advocating for the engineering needs of non-technical collaborators.
Owning and driving the delivery of large, cross-team, and cross-group initiatives and projects from ideation to completion.
You're probably a match if you have
Experience in technical people leadership and mentorship of engineers.
Commercial experience in a software development environment, ideally with experience in building frameworks, libraries, or APIs.
Familiarity with our stack (Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, MobX) is valuable but not required.
Strong computer science fundamentals including concurrency, multithreading, data structures, solution design, architecture, and design patterns.
Experience working collaboratively with cross-functional team members and effective communication skills.
Strong problem-solving skills to break large projects into smaller deliverables.
Experience with experimentation is beneficial but not mandatory.

The Messaging Surfaces team is responsible for user-facing components and infrastructure, enabling compliant marketing and product lifecycle engagement.
