About the role The Department of General Medicine is looking to appoint a Fixed Term (to cover sabbatical and leave) Consultant General Physician with a sub-speciality in Endocrinology to join a department of twelve other Consultant Physicians who have a range of subspecialty interests. We are looking for a knowledgeable Endocrinologist to be responsible for diagnosing and treating endocrine disorders, diabetes and other problems relating to the endocrine system. The Endocrinologist will evaluate patient symptoms and medical histories, diagnose conditions, and develop treatment plans. You will also help patients to deal with the physical limitations due to diseases stemming from problems with the endocrine system. To be a successful Endocrinologist, you should be thoroughly trained in understanding, treating, and managing endocrine disorders. You should be analytical, supportive, and have good communication and interpersonal skills. The endocrinology service is currently delivered by a full time (1.0 FTE) consultant supported by a part time (0.4FTE) consultant. The two positions work together to deliver endocrinology services to address a wide range of conditions, supported by our Tertiary hospital as necessary. About you Full time (1.0FTE) Endocrinology/General Medicine. Participating in acute ward work and outpatient endocrinology clinics. This will require participating on the on call roster with Registrar and House Officer support. The successful applicant should have specialist qualifications registerable in New Zealand. The Department of Medicine has a strong track record with education and training, and the successful incumbents will be expected to participate and contribute to the department's CME activities, including basic & advanced trainee registrar teaching, audit and medical student teaching. The Hospital, situated in New Plymouth, is a progressive regional secondary referral centre for the province of Taranaki with a wide range of medical specialties, an Intensivist-managed ICU within a combined ICU/HDU/CCU and a well-equipped Radiology Department providing interventional radiology, which includes digital radiology, CT guided biopsy MRI, CT and angiography. There is an excellent Laboratory Service, and the IT service is among the best in the country. A place like no other Taranaki boasts some of New Zealand's most iconic natural landscapes like Mt Taranaki and many adventure activities. The rugged and wild coastline is home to more than 12 world-class surf breaks. Taranaki is a place where you can ski and surf in the same day.
