The Gisborne ED is home to a group of FACEM or vocationally registered emergency specialists working with urgent care doctors to treat a volume of about 25,000 patients per year, with a 25% admission rate. We have a substantial portion of high acuity medical patients, trauma, and paediatrics. Our experienced specialists have extensive teaching experience and provide solid support for our registrars, and there are ample procedural opportunities. Gisborne Hospital, a 110 bed acute care hospital which serves a wide geographical area, Tairawhiti, extending up the East Cape of New Zealand, creating enormous scope and variety in the work available to an enthusiastic registrar. Providing healthcare to a population of 54,000, Te Whatu Ora Tairawhiti is well supported locally by comprehensive surgical services and has a full range of diagnostic facilities on site including a new MRI scanner and CT scanner. We have strong ties with our tertiary referral centre in Waikato.
Minimum Requirements Ideal applicants should have at least 2 years postgraduate experience and had a previous placement working in an Emergency Department at Senior House Officer Level.
Experience and Eligibility You need to be a current employee of Te Whatu Ora.
Suitable for Resident Medical Officers who will be PGY3+ or above.
You will have eligibility for general or provisional general registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. Information on the process of application for this can be found on their website at www.mcnz.org.nz.
