About the role: The role of the Emergency Management Advisor - Local Welfare Lead is to provide specialist Emergency Management welfare expertise and support to both Selwyn District Council and the wider Canterbury community.
This is 24.5 hours per week; however, additional hours may be required.
As the Emergency Management Advisor - Local Welfare Lead, the role is primarily required to: Set welfare priorities and coordinate the actions of welfare partners to ensure the district is adequately prepared to support communities in an emergency.
Support, including some training of 30+ community volunteers.
Maintain relationships with stakeholders and welfare agencies.
Lead the coordination of welfare services to affected individuals, families, and communities in Selwyn District during an emergency.
Work with the Community Resilience Coordinator to train and support Community Response Teams and support CDEM staff when required.
Work collegially with other Territorial Authorities as part of the Canterbury CDEM Group.
About you: Our ideal candidate will be flexible and a facilitator of excellent working relationships.
You will have had previous experience in a Welfare organization as either a paid employee or a volunteer with some operational experience.
You will also have: Excellent relationship management skills essential for working alongside all other emergency service and welfare agencies.
The ability to self-manage and remain motivated.
The flexibility to be deployed elsewhere in Canterbury or other parts of New Zealand should the need arise.
A working knowledge of CIMS4 (Coordinated Incident Management System).
