Electronic Warfare Operator (IT Specialist) As an Electronic Warfare Operator (EWOP), you will work with an extensive range of communications technologies and analytical tools, protecting our forces and gathering information for input into the intelligence cycle.
You will detect, intercept, collect, identify, analyse and exploit electronic emissions within the electromagnetic spectrum.
Working in a team environment, sometimes in high-pressure situations, you will analyse the information you have collected.
During your training, you will learn to operate military radios and other voice and data communication networks in various scenarios, whether from hard standing buildings, vehicles, or on foot.
Job on base Job on deployment To be an effective EW Operator, you need to enjoy the outdoors, be an effective problem solver, and think quickly in short windows of time.
Your trade training includes a mixture of courses and on-the-job training over an approximate eight-year period.
Courses will vary in content, focusing on your technical skills as an Electronic Warfare Operator, personal communication, decision making, leadership ability, and your capacity to make technical and tactical decisions to support a commander's mission.
You will initially be posted to Burnham Military Camp, Christchurch, with opportunities for job placements in Auckland, Waiouru, and Wellington as your career progresses.
