Our hospital provides a 15 bed emergency department seeing 18,000 patients per year which is supported by 24/7 laboratory and radiology services, including CT. The emergency department is staffed by an eclectic team of doctors – rural specialists, emergency medical officers and emergency specialists. We assess all patients presenting acutely to the hospital and treat, transfer, or admit as required.
Our medical roster provides SMO cover 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, you will enjoy working as part of a team in this busy department. Currently 10-hour duties are being worked in the department.

Thames Hospital is part of the Health NZ Te Whatu Ora Waikato, and is set against the hills on the Coromandel Peninsula on New Zealand's North Island. We are a fully modernised rural and secondary hospital service, providing healthcare for a catchment population of 45,000. This population swells significantly over the summer holidays as the wider country makes their way to their favourite vacation destinations across the Coromandel.
We pride ourselves on the provision of quality and patient focussed care and work in a true inter-disciplinary way with nursing and allied health team members. The hospital has a feel of everyone pulling together to ensure the patients are cared for in the very best way possible across the care continuum.

Applications are invited from Fellows of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine or Fellows of the Division of Rural Hospital Medicine, or overseas equivalent. Medical officers with appropriate experience in emergency medicine will also be considered. You must be eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
