ECOLOGY TEAM LEADER/PRINCIPAL VEGETATION ECOLOGIST - WELLINGTON Wildland Consultants is an established and highly respected ecological consultancy in Aotearoa, with a reputation based on providing outstanding services with integrity, making a real difference for people and the environment.

About the role Provide relevant specialist consultancy services in the area of vegetation ecology, and other relevant specialist areas, actively undertake work in your specialist area.Lead our Wellington team and support the preparation of high quality and commercially astute bids and tenders for ecological services.Oversee plan, schedule and organise all phases of ecological project work, ensuring necessary resources, budgets and controls are in place to meet both programme and budget requirements.Lead and support delivery of high-quality ecological consultancy and advisory services to both internal and external clients, including through our check and review processes.Support development of technically robust and pragmatic solutions to complex ecological issues.Author or technically check project deliverables to ensure high quality outputs.Support the continued development of our technical capabilities and reach.Present expert evidence to the Environment Court.What you will bring to the role A PhD (strongly preferred) or other postgraduate qualification in ecology. In particular, a good knowledge and experience of New Zealand botany and plant ecology, restoration biology and ecological management.Experience in ecological effects assessments, management and restoration of natural areas.Ability to think strategically, and work proactively towards Wildlands Strategic vision.Demonstrated project management skills: budgeting, client liaison, project setup, and meeting deadlines.Proven people management skills; a collegiate, team-player attitude. An understanding of where to focus your team's efforts, and how to work to individual's strengths.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Proven ability to communicate on appropriate technical and commercial levels to a diverse range of current and potential clients.Excellent report writing skills.Experience in working with ambiguity and dealing with complex problems.Excellent networking skills.Experience with writing tender responses, contract reports, and managing fieldwork.Prior experience in a professional consultancy will be an advantage.4WD experience.What we offer Competitive salary, plus benefits.Flexible/hybrid working culture, facilitating a healthy work-life balance.Professional development opportunities.Employee recognition.Wellbeing supportThe opportunity to work in a company that is making a difference to our environment.The chance to work in a vibrant environment, committed to fostering a workplace that embraces diversity and inclusion.
