WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR: A talented experienced Principal Ecologist to lead our high performing and motivated Wellington ecology team in our Porirua office, which will be relocating to Kaiwhawahawa within the next 4-6 months.
A person who has a commitment to providing fit-for-purpose information to support good decisions and is a strategic thinker who relishes working at the interface between evidence and decision making.
Someone who puts people first, values diversity, and has potential to develop and grow into a team leader.
MUST HAVE: Strong New Zealand ecology knowledge, particularly on indigenous vegetation.
Experience in ecological effects assessments, management and restoration of natural areas.
Ability to think strategically, and work proactively towards Wildlands Strategic vision.
Passion and commitment to excellent leadership with proven people management skills.
Great communication and interpersonal skills, and a proven ability to build productive working relationships and work collaboratively.
Experience in working with ambiguity and dealing with complex problems.
An understanding of the importance of other knowledge bases and information sources (including matauranga Maori).
Project and budget management skills.
Experience with writing tender responses, contract reports, and managing fieldwork.
Proven ability to communicate on appropriate technical and commercial levels to a diverse range of current and potential clients.
A PhD (strongly preferred) or other postgraduate qualification in ecology, with good knowledge and experience of New Zealand botany and plant ecology, restoration biology, and ecological management.
